There once was a little boy, who lived in BigTown, with his family. His name was Jamie. Jamie was very special, he had many talents and gifts.

Like many children his age, Jamie sometimes felt plain and ordinary while he thought other kids had so many great talents and special gifts. His sister is a good golfer, his brother can hit home runs in his baseball games, and his father is the best person to go to for advice.

One day Jamie was walking through the park to his friend's house when suddenly a squirrel appeared from behind a tree. As Jamie started to walk past the tree, the squirrel said, "Hello Jamie, I hope that you have a wonderful day today. You have many special qualities young man, you should be very proud of yourself."

Jamie stopped, he couldn't believe what he just heard. A squirrel talking to him? What did he say? Special gifts? Me?

The next day, Jamie was walking across the park again, the squirrel was sitting on a branch of an old pine tree. He said, "Good morning, young man, I hope you have a wonderful day today! You have many special qualities, you should be very proud of yourself." Jamie kept walking, a bit nervous of the talking squirrel.

Hmm, what special qualities could he be talking about?

After two weeks, Jamie had seen the squirrel a number of times now but was always afraid to talk to it. What would he say? So this time, when he saw the squirrel, Jamie said, "What is your name? And how do you know my name?"

"My name is Marlin. I love to meet and talk to boys and girls. I love to listen and learn as much as I can. Jamie, can you tell me what your favourite activities are?

"That is easy. My favourite activities are baking cookies, playing the guitar, and reading.

"Oh look at the time, I have to go Marlin. I will see you tomorrow."

It was a beautiful sunny day today, a perfect day for Jamie to walk in the park. He wasn't long in the park before he saw Marlin. Jamie was finally going to ask Marlin what he has been talking about for weeks.

"Hi Marlin, you keep telling me that I have special gifts. What are they? I am a plain and ordinary boy. I don't think that I have any special gifts."

The squirrel said, "I think that you need to look in your heart to see how you are unique. I know that one of your traits is that you are learnt how to play guitar. This quality that you possess brings happiness to many people around you. I know that this is one of the qualities that your friend really loves about you!"

Hmm, thought the little boy, maybe this is a special quality.

It was a Saturday morning; same routine, Jamie was on his way to his friend's house. As he ran through the park, the squirrel was sitting by the pond. Jamie slowed down and Marlin turned around before Jamie even said anything.

"Good day Jamie. Have you thought of any more special gifts that you have?"

"I have a hard time trying to think of special qualities. What about that I am a good cook?"

"Yes, that is a very special quality. What about you being good at drawing? It is a wonderful talent!"

On Sunday, Jamie didn't have anything in particular to do so he thought he would take a quick walk to the park. This time, he was looking for Marlin. He wondered if he would talk to him today if he saw him. He looked around a bit but couldn't find him. "Hmm, I wonder if he will be here today."

He started to walk back home and when he turned around, there was Marlin right in front of him on the path.

"Good morning, Jamie. Have you thought of any other special qualities that you have? I think that you have many special talents. You are funny. This makes so many people around you feel good. Not everyone can make others feel good, you should be very proud."
